Cable Driven Speedos.

We have made a lovely little reduction gearbox that fits at the end of the cable and reduces its rotation to mph. At the same time, of course, it will also correct the odometer reading to miles and remove the top speed limit. Some cars (an MX5, for example) need a short extension cable as well, we will supply that free of charge when you need it. The gearbox is easy to fit, robust and will fit all the cable drive speedos with the exception of the old shape CRX (non V-tec); for this car we have to install a mid-way gearbox, just send us the cable and we will do the job and send it back to you by return of post. The MMC L 200 is also cable drive and this is the best way of preparing that car for the SVA test. The gearbox costs £50.00 and in most cases it can be fitted in about ten minutes. MGF is also cable drive. The early Skyline (series 32) is cable driven. Most speedos now are electronic however as the ECU needs a signal in that form to control emissions etc but there are still a lot of cable drives on the market.

There are cheaper units available elsewhere and we have tried them as ours is not cheap to make; when we tried one with plastic gears we found a high failure rate on installation as the gears tended to lock up and we found the failure rate in use was not acceptable. Basically there is no substitute for good engineering if you want something to last 100,000 miles - that is about 30,000 hours running time in extremely hostile conditions under a car. Once again, we offer a lifetime guarantee with our units.

Our current gearbox fits on the actual gearbox of the car in most cases but now we have developed another type that is far better that fits behind the speedo, but this not suitable for Pajeros and neither will it fit a R32 Skyline, see the snap here of it fitted to an Impreza.

So far we have tried this new device on quite a few models with great success but we also look to you for feedback on models that we have not seen Where it can be fitted it is a very easy and clean job to do and takes no time at all.
